The Garmin Zumo 550 is purpose built to be used as a GPS unit on a motorcycle and is one of only two GPS units designed as such. The look of this motorcycle GPS 550 is chic and full of passion. Its silver shell can be exchanged with numerous other designs, such as racing stripes and flames.
A part from the GPS unit, inside the packet there is: a motorcycle mount, a car mount, an AC charger, a tiny screwdriver for the "safety screw" on the unit, a motorcycle power cable connecting to the bike's battery, a car charger, black plastic faceplates and tools needed to mount the Zumo to motorcycle handlebars.
And there is even more. The Zumo comes with a City Navigator DVD, a USB cable to connect to your computer to get updates and new maps, an electronic copy of the Zumo owner manual and quick setup guide to enable you to use the GPS unit as quickly as possible.
The only thing lacking is a Bluetooth earpiece for the helmet. However, with so many other things included with the unit, this is not as much as a problem as it first appears. Also, there are quite a number of Bluetooth-integrated helmets and standalone earpieces for helmets that you can buy at a reasonable price.
You can attach the Garmin Zumo 550 to your motorcycle with either a u-bolt mount or a clutch mount - which ever one you prefer. The unit is small considering (4.8 inches by 3.9 inches) and light (10.6 ounces), making it ideal to be used on your motorcycle.
The Zumo 550 meets IPX7 standards, which means it can endure immersion in water for up to thirty minutes. One unique feature is the ability to choose the size of icons: standard and large.
While the Garmin Zumo 550 is purpose built for motorcycles, it can also work fantastically well in your car. This means that you can swap it between your car and motorcycle whenever you like. Inside the car, the GPS unit is place at eye level ensuring that you never have to take your eyes off the road for more than a second at a time.
The speaker volume is ideal. The Zumo's UV resistant touch screen is a 3.5-inch (diagonal) with a 320x240 pixel resolution and a white backlight. In the end, this product is a good one and I totally recommend it.
